WJP #010 – Has the past returned to bite us again?
I’m a New York Mets fan. Yes, a diehard. And after last year, I knew we had a killer team that would last for years. Now, this team is a killer, don’t get me wrong but all this year, we have had little nagging things that when coupled together…disaster.
Tonight was one of those nights. Against a team that by all means, we should be destroying. But I can’t understand what just happened. Where was our closer? Why can’t we hold a lead? And maybe, just maybe – this team needs to lose their vaunted first place.
Yeah, I said it.
They need to lose it. Maybe it would wake them up. Maybe it would make them play the way we know they can play. Something has to give. Paul Lo Duca said the other night, “The way we’ve been playing, we can’t beat a high school team.” And he’s absolutely right. I was hoping with the Yankees looking like they’re getting in the playoffs after an abysmal season, we just might get a Subway Series going.
Now I don’t know if we can hold up our end. It’s time to suck it up. We need to get Delgado back and hitting. We need to get Reyes back on track. We need to get our pitching up to snuff. We need to get our MVP, David Wright, to stop rushing throws (David has way too many throwing errors). We have little nagging things that can kill a team.
And where the hell was Billy Wagner tonight? When we needed our closer the most, he was nowhere to be found.
I’m frustrated and disgusted. Frankly, they better get their shit together and quick or damn it, heads need to fucking roll.
