Remote Hoppin’ – An Intro and two USA shows….

I told you this wasn’t going to be all about video games. Remote Hoppin’ will be the television aspect of this site. Got two more gettin’ ready to pop off also. Anyway, I’m going to post my season finale Lost Review here plus some other shit. Right now, we going in about the USA network and specifically the two summer shows that got Daddy open: In Plain Sight and Burn Notice.

Burn Notice hooked me last year when summer television was deader than Kramer’s career. Just the fact that my main man Axe aka the legendary Bruce Campbell was going to be on it was enough. Imagine my glee when I saw Sharon Gless and Gabrielle Anwar (lookin’ damn fine, might I add). The key though was the star, Jeffrey Donovan and from the opening alone, he came thru. The right mix of humor, action, suspense with an actual plot.

So Burn Notice is back and Michael is still trying to find out who burned him but now he has a “handler” – one Tricia Helfer as the mysterious Carla. His relationship with Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) has taken a decided turn and Michael is still on his mission.

Season one for Burn Notice is out on DVD. Buy it – it’s worth it. And start checking it out – if you ever wondered what James Bond would be like with MacGyver’s skills, then this show is for you. Did I mention Gabrielle Anwar and Tricia Helfer? Oh, okay, just checking…

Then there is In Plain Sight starring the oh so cool and sexy Mary McCormack. Here she plays Mary Shannon, U.S. Marshal attached to the Federal Witness Protection Program known as WITSEC and she is assigned to Alburquerque, New Mexico. That alone makes this one of the most original shows on television. Add to the fact that Mary can’t really talk about her job, must keep secrets and has what can only be described as a high maintenance family unit and welcome to action and humor again (which USA seems to be specializing in with a pretty decent track record). The talented Lesley Ann Warren plays Mary’s mom, Jinx. All you need to know is that the name fits her like a glove. Then there is her ne’er do well sister, Brandi Shannon, portrayed by the lovely Nichole Hiltz. Brandi is basically a knockoff of mom with even less scruples but as viewers have recently witnessed, Brandi does have a heart.

Top it off with veteran character actor Paul Ben-Victor as Stan McQueen, Mary’s boss and scene stealer Frederick Weller as Mary’s partner and super intellectual Marshall Mann, we get to see case after case where Mary and Marshall have another charge, another secret and more action.

All in all, I like it.

USA has a formula and it seems to be working for them.
