We Got Game: Killzone 2 Review
You’ve waited and waited and finally it has arrived…
Killzone 2 is finally here.
Let’s get the easy stuff out the way: Killzone 2 is a first person shooter (FPS) that follows the story from Killzone. You don’t have to have played Killzone to enjoy the game, however and understand that the story is just there for you to move on to the next board. With that said, how does it play?
In a word, Killzone 2 is kickass! It follows the traditional play of first acclaimating you to the controls and enviroment for the first two boards and then you’re on your own. The middle boards of Killzone 2 are the ones that bring the ultimate fulfillment. But you want details, don’t you?
More after the jump…
You play as Sev, who is a scout for the ISA. The ISA is going to Helghast planet to take over. Why? Who cares? You’re the good guys, they’re the bad guys and you’re going to kick some Helghast ass. Graphic wise, this game is probably one of the best you’ll ever see. Guerilla Games took full advantage of the power of the Playstation 3 console and even the cutscenes are mini movies of beauty. Sony has been sorely in need of some exclusives for the PS3 and this is their first FPS.
The weapons are amazing but for the most part, the best ones don’t carry over to the next board. The bolt gun and the electrical gun (trust me, you’re gonna want to grab that as soon as it’s available) are just two guns that once you get a hold of them, you will not want to let them go. But, sadly the choice is not yours.
Still, there are more weapons and ammo than you’ll need. Plus you can melee and your pistol has unlimited ammo. Is Killzone 2 the Halo-Killer people have been raving about? In my opinion, no. But it’s a start. It’s replay value is limited (it opens up more if you’re trying for trophies) but the multiplayer saves this game.
You join in and go for broke. You’ll probably be killed a couple of times but don’t fear. Just go back and find yourself some enemies and go for broke. Just like the single player, it’s not for the faint of heart. Killzone 2 is basically balls to the walls. Sooner or later, you’ll have to man up and run in, take some shots to gain your objective. You will learn that not only is cover your friend, it’s your best ally. That and learning to back away to find a better vantage point. Some headshots and then take off. And remember to reload.
